often used Lean principle, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a tool that
illustrates the flow of resources used to create a product or service.
Through diagramming an organization or system VSM helps to identify,
demonstrate, and eliminate waste in the various processes. Once used
solely in manufacturing, VSM techniques can now be applied to any
situation and is most useful as a strategic planning tool. The process
of VSM generally includes a mapping of “Current State” processes and a
proposed “Future State.”
